The past 2 weeks here in Spain have been too good to be true for kiting. Together with Alvaro Onieva who is absolutely killing it on the water I kited pretty much every day which in August would normally never be possible here, but by following the wind between Malaga, Marbella and Tarifa we made it possible and scored some seriously great sessions with again above-the-norm conditions. All that in board shorts.
This all culminated in a perfect session at a secret spot in Malaga with the glassiest water I ever set board on and perfectly consistant wind for 11m yesterday. We took turns at filming/riding and were the only kiteboarders on the water. Even the fisherman and swimming tourists were attentive enough to make some space for us to go into the tricks with speed and power. Definitely the best riding I ever scored back home!
This summer has been very quiet around Malaga and Marbella in terms of wind, so we had no choice but to go to the cable. That thing has no obstacles and most people are on knee boards, so it’s nothing like OWC Orlando or similar parks, but still better than nothing. Good thing about not having obstacles is your forced to do aerials. Alvaro and I rode like 5 times this summer and coming from kiteboarding the progression is really fast, Alvaro is already going for Double Sbend to blinds and landed a Hasselhoff, I have it a bit more difficult being Regular so I’m going for Pete Roses and I landed a Regular footed Frontroll to Blind and Batwing to blind among other easier goofy stuff, like Blind Judges, Back2Blinds, etc.
Been off the water for 3 weeks do to a minor knee problem. Today was my first day out on a freestyle board again, pretty nice feeling, got tired of riding a surfboard in flat water, daaa…
Shooting and writing a small story about my home spot now, this year we really got some solid days and the crew is expanding exponentially, so it’s time to get the word out about our slick kite destination here + a cable, the cable has no obstacles though and is way to expensive for my pocket:(
Seen some short edits of my upcoming stance feature and it’s looking tight, will keep you updated on that one.
The past 2 weeks at home have been better than ever, it’s been windy every day and last weekend I shared some huge kickers with Alvaro. Now I’m in Germany for a couple of days, had a shoot yesterday and in about a week I will fly to Antigua to make one of my biggest dreams come true: Shoot with ACL Productions! The crew of riders is gonna consist of Alvaro Onieva, Kevin Steen, Greg Norman, Jake, Dre and me. Elliot Laboe and Tracy Kraft are going to shoot film and stills respectively. Remember Autofocus, Ten4, Metropolis or Catalyst? All made and filmed by Elliot, he’s Kiteboardings Steven Spielberg! And my last Stance DVD Cover, that was Tracy! Check out this link for some ACL footage.
