DeSantis says bad drivers are being deported.
Gov. Ron DeSantissays undocumented immigrants are partly to blame for the high cost of car insurance.
“If we enforce immigration law, I think that’s going to help because the illegals don’t carry insurance,” DeSantis said during a press conference in Orlando.
“The illegals don’t drive very well. And so you get into an accident and then you’re just left holding the bag.”
As he’s argued before, DeSantis also said the state’s tighter immigration laws passed this year have already reduced traffic and potential for accidents.
“When we signed the immigration legislation, I had people coming up to me two weeks later saying they noticed the difference in traffic,” DeSantis explained.
“I think there is a fear that if you’re here illegally, you don’t have a license and you get in a fender bender, it’s not just going to be you skate anymore. Like you actually get sent back and deported to your home country.”
Of course, DeSantis’ other recent observations about Florida drivers have suggested that people legally in the state aren’t that great behind the wheel either.
“We have challenges with how the culture of driving is,” DeSantis said. “I was telling people when we had the snowstorm. Now, North Florida may be a little bit better than South Florida for driving, but I was afraid everyone’s going to be peeling out on this ice and stuff. And we were plowing it. And I think it ended up working out okay. But you have that situation.”

Always blame it on somebody else. Where is our insurance commissioner? Where is the legislature? Florida has the highest car insurance rates in the nation.
“According to Bankrate’s January 2025 data, Florida is the state with the most expensive average annual cost for full coverage car insurance, at an average of $4,171 each year, which is 58% higher than the national average of $2,638.”

Nope. DeSantis is 100% correct and is calling like it is. Just why do you think auto insurance rates are higher in Florida? In addition to unlawfully being in the US, far too many criminal aliens drive and act just like they did in the banana republic Third World countries they left. Solution? Deportation.

Florida is where woke goes to drive. Actually Desantis makes a good point on irresponsible, under insured drivers. I think he spoke about this over in Idaho and Montana recently. Surprised the story says he was in Orlando, a place he only visits to file lawsuits or improperly remove elected officials.

There were almost 48 million licensed drivers ages 65 and older in Florida in 2020, accounting for about 25% of all drivers in the state. Add in those retired snowbirds who have no idea where they are going and who drive 5 miles under the speed limit- oh boy, illegals need to get outta the way! How bout some legislation requiring physical driving tests for those Boomers 75 and older? How popular would that be? Let’s start in the Villages with golf carts and go from there..

You might be a ScienceBLVR but don’t let facts get in your way. Florida’s population is around 23 million, so no there aren’t “ 48 million licensed drivers ages 65 and older in Florida”.

Insurance is awful here because this is a No-Fault state. That means that EVERY accident, regardless of obvious fault, goes to lawyers to debate it out and cost everyone more money. That’s the reason you see all the lawyer billboards down here. NO FAULT is a SCAM.

DeSantis is so quick to throw the blame around rather than deal with the issue. I travel around the state each month and my observations has led me to believe that the problem is largely white “seemingly entitled” adults, male and female, who feel the road is theirs and all the rest of us are causing a major inconvenience for them. It has also been my observation that illegals tend to be more careful because of their status and lack of DLs. And FYI, because some will assume I am a minority, I am a retired state auditor and white male.
